Max-Born-Institut für Nichtlineare Optik und Kurzzeitspektroskopie

The Max-Born Institute (MBI) was founded in 1992 and belongs to the "Forschngsverbund Berlin e.V. It is a member of the German "Wissenschaftsgemeinschaft Gottfried-Wilhelm Leibnitz" a community of scientific research institutes. The MBI has about 180 employees including 90 scientists.
The MBI pursues on basic researches in the field of nonlinear optics and observation of ultra fast dynamics in the interaction of light with condensed matter. For that purpose the MBI provides a variety of short pulse laser sources ranging from the mid-IR, visible to the x-ray wavelength. Obtained results are used to design and to optimize different kinds of applications. Main topics are

* new soures for ultra short and ultra intense light pulses, puls shaping and characterisation, and measurement techniques for the ultra short time range
* applications in basic research and development of optical technologies in physics, material sciences, photo chemetry, and photo biologie.

The MBI fulfills national and international duties by providing external scientists with research capacities in its application laboratories. Further the MBI engages in several cooperative projects with other institutes and industrial partners and contributes its theoretical and experimental know-how.
