The EOS Annual Meeting 2008 was a great success

10 % more attendees than in 2006 registered for the meeting, which in the meatime has become an important biannual event for the European optics and photonics community.

Prizes and Fellows

Besides from seven topical meetings and two workshops, the EOS Annual General Assembly took place, where not only the board election results and other important items of the last year were presented, also the EOS prize winners as well as the EOS fellows and student poster awards were announced.

The EOS prize went to Sanshui Xiao, Niels Asger Mortensen, Min Qiu for their outstanding contribution on "Enhanced transmission through arrays of subwavelength holes in gold films coated by a finite dielectric layer", published in JEOS: RP, the e-journal of the EOS.

Terahertz Focus Group young investigator award  

  • 1st prize: Rupert Huber for his exciting research performed in the area of terahertz science and technology, namely „THz quantum optics”. The first prize of 1000 € is sponsored by Femtolasers.
  • 2nd: Fumiaki Miyamaru for the presentation on “Higly sensitive terahertz imaging with plasmonic crystals”.
  • 3rd prize: Markus Walther for his presentation on “Terahertz nearfield imaging of electric fields in meta-materials”. Both, the 2nd and the 3rd price, were sponsored with books by Wiley Blackwell Publishing.

The student poster awards, sponsored by Springer went to:
