Intensive training on “Entrepreneurship in Biophotonics”

A modular training for everybody who is interested in entrepreneurship in biophotonics. An initiative of the European Commission funded Network of Excellence on Biophotonics “Photonics 4 Life” and Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

Important: The first 10 young researchers of Photonics 4 Life will receive a reimbursement of up to 400 Euro.

Module 1 - Introduction to Business Economics

This course is designed to give people, without any economic training, a comprehensive introduction to general business economics, with the emphasis on entrepreneurship. The module without business Training covers a wide range of disciplines, including financial management, marketing and industry dynamics. Module 1 is the shortcut to a better understanding of the modern company.

Module 2 - Business Economics of Biophotonics

This module addresses some essential non-technological business aspects of the biophotonics industry. The focus is placed on two growing sectors in the industry: medical imaging and micro-optical systems in diagnostics. Several presentations by industry leaders will provide attendees with a more complete understanding of these biophotonics markets. The module covers a wide range of disciplines, including financial management, marketing and industry dynamics. There will be an examination on modules 1 and 2, on Saturday, the 12th of September, for those participants who would like to earn 3 ECTS-credits (prerequisite: general economics course).

Module 3 - Biophotonics Business Project

The second week is focused on developing (parts of) a business plan for your biophotonics invention. Teamwork as well as individual work will guide you through some required components of a business plan: idea, product, market, value chain, strategy,… This module is entitled with 3 ECTS-credits. Since there is teamwork involved, every participant of this project will need to sign a NDA. Project topic should be submitted by Monday, August 17th. The organisation assesses whether the topic fits the scope of the business project and has the right to reject project proposal. Acceptance of the project topic will be announced on Monday, the 17th of August. For those who would like to participate in this 3rd module, a social event is planned in the weekend of the 12th of September.
