EOS welcomes three new Societal Members

Three societies, the Latvian Optical Society (LOS), the Ukrainian Society of Pure and Applied Optics (USPAO) and the Rozhdestvensky Optical Society (ROS), have recently joined the EOS as Societal Members.

The LOS and USPAO joined as Branches and the ROS as an Affiliated Society. EOS thus welcomes approx. 1620 new members in Eastern Europe (LOS: 20; USPAO: 100; ROS: 1500).

The new societies will be represented in the EOS Advisory Committee by:

Lavtian Optical Society
Prof. Andris Ozols (President)
c/o Riga Technical University
Riga, Latvia

Ukrainian Society of Applied Optics
Prof. Oleg Angelsky (President)
c/o Chernivtsi National University
Chernivtsi, Ukraine

Rozhdestvensky Optical Society (ROS)
Prof. Irina Livshits
c/o ITMO State University of Information Technology
Kronverkskiy, 49

Saint Petersburg, Russia

"With the new societies EOS has made an important step towards further integrating the optics and photonics experts from all European countries", says EOS President Hans Peter Herzig. In his presidential term Herzig's most important aim is to make the EOS grow in the sense of better representing optics and photonics "made in Europe". Welcoming the LOS, USPAO and ROS and their approx. 1600 members is an excellent basis for establishing stronger links to the Eastern European community.
