Photo-Fet - Integrated Photonic Field-Effect Technology for bio-sensing functional components

The objective of Photo-Fet is to develop a photonic miniaturized disposable platform for point-of care diagnostics that is capable of performing quantitative diagnostic tests that are currently limited to a hospital laboratory setting. The project aims at the development of a line of disposable, fast, cheap, quantified and precise devices that will greatly extend the in-house tools available to the general practitioner, home-users, and field-specialists operating without on-premise laboratory facilities. The target product is a disposable device for monitoring cardiovascular health. Cardiovascular diseases, including coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke, are the largest cause of death in the EU and account for approximately 40% of deaths, i.e. some 2 million fatalities per year.
