ECONOS 2008 & microCARS 2008

25th May 2008 - 27th May 2008
Igls near Innsbruck, Austria

We invite you to submit a contribution to the joint
XXX
7th European Conference on Nonlinear Optical Spectroscopy (ECONOS 2008)
XXX
andX

1st European Conference on CARS microscopy (microCARS 2008),
xxx
which will take place on May 25-27 2008 in Igls near Innsbruck, Austria.
xxx

The scientific program of the joint conference will cover all theoretical and experimental aspects of nonlinear optical spectroscopy and microscopy. Topics covered include, but are not limited to Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering (CARS) spectroscopy and microscopy, other forms of nonlinear optical responses in the time and frequency domain, and investigations of the physical and chemical processes defining the spectral signatures in different nonlinear media. Contributions on emerging analytical techniques and on their applications in biomedical research, material science, and engineering are particularly welcomed.

Besides lectures and talks by invited speakers, we encourage the submission of contributed oral presentations (15 min + 5 min discussion).
Above all, we invite the submission of contributed poster presentations that will provide the opportunity for informal and cross-disciplinary discussions during the coffee/tea/lunch breaks. The Monday evening will be reserved for a formal two-hour Poster Session. Following the tradition of previous ECONOS conferences and of last year's CARS microscopy workshop in Valencia, we also encourage the submission of poster presentations that will summarize the research presented in the talks.
Abstract submission and early registration deadline: February 24, 2008

Instructions for the Abstract Submission and Registration are posted on the conference webpage: http://igls2008.org

Confirmed list of invited speakers (view the list of preliminary titles):

Brigitte Attal-Tretout, ONÉRA, Palaiseau (France)
Max Diem, Northeastern University, Boston (USA)
Hiro-o Hamaguchi, University of Tokyo, Tokyo (Japan)
Robert P. Lucht, Purdue University, West Lafayette (USA)
Marcus Motzkus, Philipps-Universität, Marburg (Germany)
Eric O. Potma, University of California, Irvine (USA)
Erik Vartiainen, Lappeenranta University of Technology, Lappeenranta (Finland)
Sunney Xie, Harvard University, Cambridge (USA)
Aleksei M. Zheltikov, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Moscow (Russia)

In order to foster new cross-disciplinary collaborations in the highly active area of nonlinear optical microscopy, presentations of new scientific results will be complemented by three Tutorials on CARS/Raman microscopy. The main goal of these tutorials is to provide PhD-students and Postdocs starting in the emerging field of nonlinear optical microscopy with the basic background of nonlinear optics in general and CARS/Raman microscopy in particular. These short courses will be given by experts in the respective fields (view the outline of these tutorials).

More information about the conference (deadlines, venue, housing, registration fee, travel etc.) can be found at http://igls2008.org.

The meeting is organized in cooperation with the European Union COST action MP0603 “Chemical imaging by means of CARS microscopy (microCARS)”.

We also encourage the active partcipation of researchers from Eastern European countries. A limited number of travel grant supports will be provided.

We look forward to seeing you in May 2008 in Igls.
