EOS carries out a survey on the Swedish photonics industry

The Swedish study was initiated by the Swedish Optical Society, Kista Photonics Research Centre (KPRC), Swedoptronics and Vinnova, feeling the need to make the Swedish photonics company landscape more transparent to policy makers and industry alike. Furthermore, the study attempts to estimate the impact of the photonics industry for Sweden including:

• number of companies present (in comparison with other European countries)
• employment structure and qualification of employees
• qualification level of workforce needed by industry
• turnover of industry (estimate)
• markets where Swedish companies are active in
• relevance of public funding for industry
  R&D activities and budget

The database of the EU project OPERA2015 - Optics and Photonics in the European Research area (www.opera2015.org - funded under the framework programme 6 (FP6)) served as an initial pool for companies in the field of optics and photonics in Sweden. This survey and report on the Swedish photonics industry can be seen as a role model for the use of the collected data in the OPERA2015 project for other European countries.
